Thoughts on the Martin’s 5x / 2x Gas Points?

Recently our Martin’s Foods has changed the way we can earn gas points.  Typically in sale flyers they would have purchase incentives to earn Gas Points on the items we buy in multiple groups.  These points would be of a higher value than just purchasing the item itself.  For example we earn 1 point on every dollar spent towards gas points (on qualifying items) – for every 100 points you earn a discount of $.10 off of gas.

We are in one of the select “test markets” that have changed away from their standard “Buy 7; Earn 200 Bonus Points” to “Earn 5x Gas Points”.  There are also markets that are only getting 2x the bonus points on select items.  With these changes, it’s really affecting my shopping at Martin’s as I am not experiencing as much Gas Savings to balance out the prices that are normally higher than other stores.

For example, here’s a deal that is being offered at stores this week:

Purchase 6 / Earn 200 Points:

  • Celeste Pizzas 2/$3
  • Purchase 6 = $9
  • $9 spent before coupons, 200 points earned.
In the “test” market / 5x Points:
  • Celeste Pizza 2/$3
  • Each pizza purchased at $1.50 = 7.5 points earned
  • You would have to purchase 27 pizzas to get 200 points!
I’m not very pleased with this new policy so I wrote on the Martin’s Facebook Page asking when this testing period may be over and what we could expect…

Well, there you have it – the response from Martin’s Foods.  What are your thoughts on this?  Is it affecting your store?  Are you still willing to shop at Martin’s and miss the awesome gas points deals in exchange for a one like doubled coupon per transaction?

Oscar Mayer Bologna only $.25 each at Martins! Stock Up or Donate!

Typically I would not post about deals like this where you have to purchase a high number of items to get a good deal, but in this case it makes for a GREAT deal.  Oscar Mayer Bologna is a staple in a lot of families for a quick sandwich and typically there’s plenty on the shelves (or stock to be filled) to go around.  Last night I went to Martins in Winchester and was doing some shopping and came across a really good deal that I felt I had to share.

At Martins, Oscar Mayer Bologna is on sale (through 09/15/12) for $1.25 per pack (4/$5)

If you purchase 10 packages your total purchase cost is $12.50

After you pay the $12.50 (plus tax) you will receive a $10 Catalina off your next purchase from Kraft.

This makes Bologna only $.25 EACH!

This is a GREAT deal to stock up on as they typically have a longer expiration date, can be frozen or you could even take some to those in need.  This is an excellent example of being able to score a great deal and help others.
